Calm@theFarm

Our vision is to create a space where neurodivergent young people feel safe and welcome, away from the hustle and bustle of normal life – a space where they can thrive and be completely themselves. No diagnosis is needed.

We meet every other Saturday during school term time between 1.30 and 3.30 pm, with occasional extra trips planned in accordance with the group's interest. We are planning sessions for children and young people during the week to access our naturally therapeutic environment for alternative education provision. Watch this space for news!”

Our aim is that the group is guided and developed by the young people, and includes lots of arts & crafts and animal care.

In the first few sessions our members have enjoyed sitting with the goats and rabbits, feeding the pigs and alpacas, making slime, baking, and creating vision boards.

The group is free to all who attend, although you are invited to contribute on a pay-as-you-feel basis to support the development of the group and help fund extra activities.

The group currently has a maximum of 12 young people, to ensure it stays a comfortable number for those attending

We have some forms to fill in on initial visit, so that we can understand the needs of the young people we are working with, and ensure appropriate support and adaptations are put in place. We can also offer an introductory visit to the farm, so that you are able to come and chat with us and see the site before the group. We have found this to be really helpful, especially if your young person is anxious.

Young Onset Dementia Group.

Starting Tuesday 24th Feb 2026

After a successful pilot we are rolling out our weekly supported therapeutic gardening and animal care group for people living with/awaiting a diagnosis of young onset dementia at our beautiful Community Gardens, based within a former Victorian Walled Garden on a working farm near Wetherby.

The purposeful work we do, in nature, can promote wellbeing for people living with young onset dementia through physical activity and teamwork.

We can currently accept referrals for individuals:

  1. - with/awaiting a diagnosis of young onset dementia
  2. - with moderate/good mobility - able to safely navigate some uneven ground within the community gardens
  3. - without personal care needs

Session details:

  1. - Tuesdays, 10am - 20m
  2. - Bring your own lunch, but drinks/snacks will be provided throughout the day
  3. - Transport is not provided, but please contact us if this is a barrier to attendance
  4. - Cost - £50 per day
